LIMINAL
Myself and Adelle invited artist to exhibit with the Liminal Collective 2025.
Luminiferous Aether, a substance believed to carry light through space, is a collaborative piece by ceramic artist Adelle Rutch and photographer Cynthia Lee. In this work we use light as both subject and medium to explore the movement of jellyfish and the shifting boundary between form and illusion.
Hand built ceramic structures, created by Adelle, evoke underwater terrains, grounding the piece in physical presence. Cyanotype on the pieces created by Cynthia layer colour and texture on the organic forms, capturing traces of motion and light. Projected visuals ripple across the surface, introducing a quiet dynamism that mimics the pulsing, otherworldly quality of jellyfish in motion.
Luminiferous Aether is a singular sculptural body of work that fuses stillness and motion, light and material. The interplay of these elements reflects a shared fascination with transformation, perception, and the transient nature of natural phenomena, inspired by the shores of where we both explore.
Through this piece, we explore how light moves across and through matter, how it illuminates, distorts, and reveals, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where time, texture, and light briefly converge.
